Xanga/ICQ vs Facebook/MSN

Comment 3:

How does Facebook store our data? Using the listing method?

Follow-up:

The listing method suggested by Stanford is very likely being used by Facebook to store “connectivity” data among users. Of course, such a list is also complemented by a huge user database.

Comment:

Even being a first mover, a Web site may still be replaced by other Web sites with more functions, e.g., XANGA, being the first mover for Web blog, has generally be replaced by Facebook which also has a Web blog function and many other functions. Also, ICQ has also been replaced by MSN which has better technologies. This shows that being a first mover is not the only way of success but continuous improvement in applications and technologies are needed to achieve consistent success.

Follow-up:

Excellent observation! (That’s why I want to share this with all of you.)
